SELF PORTRAIT - EMBRACING THE PAST Oil on Canvas 130 cm h x 90 cm w $10,000 Artist’s Statement In this self-portrait my intention was to evoke a sense of the ancient past and of the archaic, drawing upon a myriad of textures and tones. Ancient Egypt provided a source of inspiration and the idea of reaching back into and embracing the ancient past was an alluring part of the process. Inspirational sources included: Francis Bacon, Ancient Egypt, the ancient past and the archaic in general, and Lucian Freud.
