PASCALE Oil on Belgian Linen 104 cm h x 72 cm w NFS Artist’s Statement I have watched Pascale grow. Ever since I saw her at age 10 - I wanted to paint her! At 16 Pascale’s serene expression hides a steely determination, one I’ve not seen from someone so young. I feel she has been here before, so I painted her as she is now. Dressed in a black cheongsam and posed against a detailed Japanese screen, she displays a presence beyond her years. Yet the purity of her red hair and milky skin belies her innocence. The pose is simple and restrained yet behind her eyes a fire has been lit. In years ahead we will see it burn. This painting was a Semi-finalist in the Doug Moran Portrait Prize 2019 and Finalist, Highly Commended in the Percival Prize 2020. click on artwork to enlarge |
