Artist’s Statement
This portrait is of my daughter, a beautiful seamstress with a passion for making things, and the outfit she is wearing is one of her creations.
While she was sitting for me, we discussed the world she had inherited.
We are living in a world that couldn't be imagined only a few years ago. Change is happening at an exponential rate.

New challenges face the youth of today where they need to navigate technology, social media, pandemics, political unrest, climate change…and more.

We talked about this and the need for youth to not only look at the world around them but also have a strong sense of self, something that is often undermined by the use of social media.

And so this portrait was born, a painting with her old world costuming made in modern times and in contrast to the world of technology and social media that she has to traverse.
