PORTRAIT OF RICK AMOR, ARTIST

Egg Tempera on Traditional Gesso Panel
70 cm w x 60 cm h
NFS

Artist’s Statement
I knew of Rick Amor’s work through a friend and collector of his work and had always admired his and the dark, brooding subject matter. I also had always thought Rick would make a great portrait subject. I was uncertain that he would agree to sit, but to my surprise and relief,
he said “yes”.

We had several sittings and really got on well with each other. We shared a lot in common with our admiration for similar art and artists.

Rick has a really amazing face and I relished the challenge of doing justice to it in a portrait.  I paint mostly in oils and less so in egg tempera but at the time I was in an egg tempera mode so that is the medium I selected. I try to paint very loosely in egg tempera and like it to look more like oil than traditional egg tempera works.

Andrew Wyeth, the great American egg tempera painter, was and always is a huge influence on my egg tempera work.
