Artist’s Statement
Gary Miles was born in Warragul and has maintained an active studio practice in west Drouin for over forty years.  Regarded by many as the consummate ‘artist’s artist’.
                Ref: Spirits in the Bush: the Art of Gippsland by Simon Gregg

                                    THE SCRUMBLER
he pulls paint and pushes and pounces with colour,
he scratches with crayon and scribbles with lead,
he smudges with sponges, he floods and he dribbles;
then his lines turn to dance, his colour becomes hue;
            and when the “b…..d” is signed
                        Scrumbler claimeth his due!

Three painting trips away with Gary and Graeme Myrteza and a few glasses of red, gave rise to this portrait.
