PORTRAIT OF DR. CHRISTIAN THOMPSON AO UNVEILED
Oil on Panel
75 cm w x 75 cm h
NFS

Artist’s Statement
When Christian asked me to paint him, he gave me a promotional image of himself wearing a flower veil.  I said I needed to see his features to make a portrait, so we agreed the veil would be drawn aside to reveal his beautiful face. The little paw, drawing the veil away from his face is a mole’s paw from the Oxford Pitt Rivers Museum, which contains many artefacts that were part of Christian’s thesis on Witchcraft and Superstition in England in Medieval times. Those who look closely will see the Southern Cross constellation, Significant to his relationship with country.
