Artist’s Statement
Dr Andrew Fraval is a Melbourne-based Orthopaedic Surgeon with sub-specialty training in hip and knee conditions. Andrew completed his medical training at Melbourne University and went on to complete a Masters of Public Health. Andrew's commitment to obtain proficiency across the full spectrum of hip and knee replacement surgery saw him move to the USA to complete his sub-specialist training. He was the first Australian to train at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, which remains one of the leading centres for joint replacement surgery and is home to world leaders in the field of lower limb arthroplasty.

Andrew returned to Australia and remains a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association and is an Executive Committee member for International Consensus Meeting for prosthetic joint infection and has published in several peer review journals.

Andrew is committed to supporting the next generation of doctors through his work in the public health system at the St Vincent's Hospital and the Austin Hospital.

I was lucky enough to have Dr Andrew Fraval help me with my hip replacement. I had a metal rod and pins in my leg as treatment of a fracture sustained whilst in hospital 3 years prior.  The hip developed severe osteoarthritis so Dr Fraval removed the rod and put a new hip in.
