LEGACY Oil & 9 Carat Gold Leaf on Canvas 60 cm w x 90 cm h NFS Artist’s Statement Pauline Priestley has been a good friend for over 50 years and she has always been humble in seeking recognition for the enormous contributions she has made to Australia and our freedom and way of life. Like all of our precious and heroic veterans, Pauline is the face of resistance against an oppressor who sought to rob Australians of our country and a life under a democracy that has been our platform for inclusion, diversity and humanity. Pauline has been a great supporter of my painting career and a valued friend and confident. She was both flattered and surprised when I asked if I could paint her portrait for the Archibald competition on her 100th birthday. This painting has been accepted by the Shrine of Remembrance as a donation to be added to their collection as it fulfils their commitment to the preservation and interpretation of Victoria's social and military history. The painting will be on display for public viewing in the near future. |
