The 2020 Victorian Salon des Refusés
Cat #18 Joanne Morris
Charcoal on Cotton Rag
153 cm h x 106 cm w
My highly-realistic, black-and-white style draws attention to light and shadow without the distraction of colour. My works are painted with finely ground charcoal and hand-crafted brushes; an organic approach that breathes life and meaning into my portraits.
“Painting with charcoal I can achieve a dramatic effect of contrasting light and shadow. I love using these ancient techniques to create realism, drama and depth in my works”
