Cat #17 Joanne Morris
JASMINE Charcoal on Cotton Rag 76 cm high x 105 cm wide NFS Artist’s Statement This intricate portrait depicts the detail of face and personality. My highly realistic black-and-white style draws attention to light and shadow without the distraction of colour. My works are painted using finely ground charcoal and hand-crafted brushes; an organic approach that breathes life and meaning into my portraits. “I create with a method called ‘painting with charcoal’ using fine animal hair brushes I craft myself, plus charcoal powder, I can achieve a dramatic effect of contrasting light and shadow. I love using these ancient techniques to create realism, drama and depth in my works.” |
