THE ART OF LIVING

Artist’s Statement
The triptych I have painted of Caroline Sarah is about living with mental illness, from which she is suffering. The 3 portraits represent the three phases of depression: Darkness descending, Despair and Hope, which I personally experienced in my twenties.

From a very young age, I was drawing and painting.  My inspiration came then mostly from nature and it is still now. Symbolism plays a role in most of my works. I also love painting portraits.

I have developed my technique over many years, rarely mixing colours but layering thin coats of diluted paint. The weekly Life Drawing sessions which I host in my Studio are very important in my development as an artist.  I am forever learning.
