ANTHONY SHORTIE Acrylic on Linen 61 cm h x 46 cm w $950 Artist’s Statement Australian blues drummer Anthony Shortie has been the subject of my paintings before. This most recent one is based on a live performance at the Echuca Winter Blues Festival in 2019 where he was playing in the band Opelousas. Here, I’ve tried to capture the sense of movement of the performance and his immersion in the music. His flying hair provides wonderful opportunities for detailed, fine brushwork and working with flowing line. This contrasts with the larger flat areas of colour.
