Artist’s Statement

In the leafy suburbs of the electorate of Kooyong, change was underfoot. Thousands of volunteers for the Independent candidate, Dr Monique Ryan,  walked the streets, engaging with the community, asking what matters and what can the federal government do better. Rob Baillieu managed and motivated all these volunteers, an enormous logistic exercise. With a degree in politics and philosophy and extensive experience in the Royal Australian Engineers, he completed the task with calm and charisma. Politics is in his blood; he is new growth on established trees. Seeing him in his rainbow cape symbolises an inclusive, progressive society for me.
