Artist’s Statement
Ruby’s practice centres around the beauty and simplicity of the idea of being remarkedly unremarkable.  In a society whereby being valued as “good” or successful is measured by one’s importance to others in the world, the immense pressure to succeed by the standards of others can seem crushing.  Therefore, Ruby’s practice celebrates the parts of life that simply are.

This work in particular depicts a total stranger- someone whose life, personality, traits and accomplishments are entirely unknown.  Instead, the work focuses on the subject independently, treating the subject as “good” the way they are, rather than allowing their accomplishments to influence their depiction.
