Artist’s Statement

This artwork is all about storytelling.
Conveying a message in oil paint on a linen canvas.
Using colour, negative space, dynamic composition and
movement to entice the viewer  to ask “what is this painting
saying?”

Portraits can be so much more than just a visual representation of the sitter.  It can also be allegorical whilst describing their personality and this is what I sought to do.

This painting refers to her work in Federal Parliament and the difficulties she faces as an independent dealing with the major parties.
